Product Description

Densi Crete is a 100% pure colloidal silica designed for the protection of new or old concrete.  With zero VOC’s, it provides exceptional concrete waterproofing on new or old concrete.  Densi Crete is used to harden, cure, waterproof, densify and purge oil etc. Densi crete will seal the concrete internally to protect it from any contamination ingress.

It is also used extensively in the polished concrete industry as a concrete hardener.  A one coat, spray or broom on application that deeply penetrates into the matrix of the concrete and withstands a minimum of 35mtr of hydro-static pressure.  It can be applied to the positive or negative side of any concrete structure.  It is Australian Made and conforms to the moisture suppressant requirement as per AS1884-2012.

Ideal For

  • Garages
  • Exterior Applications
  • Driveway’s
  • Pathways
  • Concrete Pavers
  • Stencilled and stamped concrete
  • Warehouse floors
  • Exposed aggregate

Coverage Rates

Application rate is approximately 4.5m2 per ltr, therefore 15 litres will do a single application over approximately 67.5m².  (concrete porosity dependent)

Coverage rates will be determined by how porous the concrete is (how easily water soaks in). The easier and quicker that water soaks in, the more porous the concrete is and the more product you will use.

Surface Porosity

  • Ensure the concrete has sufficient porosity for the sealer to penetrate.
  • Dip a finger into a glass of water and apply 2-3 drops to the surface.
  • Time the amount of time it takes for the water to soak into the concrete.
  • For sufficient porosity to apply a sealer, this should be no longer than 90 seconds.
  • Repeat the test over multiple sections of the concrete substrate.
  • If under 90 seconds then the concrete has sufficient porosity for application of the sealer.
  • If longer than 90 seconds, then it may be necessary to either acid wash or diamond grind the concrete to open it up and create the required porosity.

Quantity Estimator

Enter the dimensions of your surface area to estimate how many tins of product you may need:

Summary Estimation
0 tins
* The estimated number of tins is based on the average coverage per square metre and is to be used as a guide only, as there are many variables when estimating (ie, porosity). Please ensure you check your calculations as Right Choice Coatings cannot be held responsible if the incorrect quantity.

General Notes

  • Ensure to read the TECHNICAL DATA SHEET thoroughly first.
  • Densi Crete’s spray mist is not hazardous to breathe, however, the use of a face mask during application is recommended.
  • It is recommended to do a test patch first to determine the suitability of the product.
  • Do not apply when the ambient temperature is below 10c or above 30c.
  • It is always advisable to apply the moisture barrier in the afternoon or in the shade.
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight when the temperatures exceed 30c.
  • The substrate must be cool to touch before applying the moisture barrier
  • Do not apply if rain is imminent in the following 2-3 hours of application.
  • Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for coverage.

PREPARATION:

Surface Porosity

  • Ensure the concrete has sufficient porosity for the moisture barrier to penetrate.
  • If under 90 seconds then the concrete has sufficient porosity for application of the moisture barrier.
  • If longer than 90 seconds, then it may be necessary to either acid wash or diamond grind the concrete to open it up and create the required porosity.

Contamination

  • All substrates must be clean and free of contamination i.e. oil, grease, bird droppings etc.
  • Many of these contaminates are easily removed using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner.
  • In some cases it may be necessary to use a concrete grinder or a light acid wash.
  • Basically, if water does not penetrate through the contamination then neither will a moisture barrier

Acid Etching

  • If required, the concrete can be lightly acid etched prior to application. This will help to create a more porous substrate.
  • Use extreme caution and safe handling methods when using hydrochloric acid.
  • Before acid etching, make sure the concrete is cleaned properly of all contaminants, oil, grease and dirt by using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner (mix @ 50:50 dilution with water), paying extra attention to heavily contaminated areas.
  • Rinse the Concrete Cleaner off thoroughly with clean water.
  • Dilute the hydrochloric acid with water at a rate of 1 part acid to 10 parts water. CAUTION! Always add the acid to the water, not water to acid.
  • Lightly dampen the surface so that the concrete is slightly wet but not puddling water.
  • Apply the diluted solution evenly to the surface using a watering can or similar.
  • Allow the acid to bubble on the concrete for up to 15 mins.
  • Once the bubbling has ceased, thoroughly rinse the surface off with clean water (abide by local laws for disposal).
  • Neutralise the surface using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner (mix @ 50:50 dilution with water, highly alkaline). Brush the mixture into the surface and allow it to sit for 5-10mins before rinsing thoroughly with clean water.
  • Allow the surface to dry for a minimum of 24 hours (weather dependant).

APPLICATION:

*Note – Protect areas not intended for coverage as Densi Crete may etch glass or dull aluminum and can be difficult to remove from other surfaces once it dries.

  • Always wear the appropriate personal protection equipment.
  • Keep to the recommended application rate, do not over apply.
  • Generally only 1 application is required, however on highly porous surfaces then a 2nd application may be necessary.
  • Do not walk on for a minimum of 1-2hours after application or ensure full penetration is complete before doing so.
  • Do not apply on a frozen substrate or when the temperature is near freezing.
  • In hot climates, mist-wet the surface with water and remove any puddles prior to application.

On Already-Set Concrete:

  1. Roughly divide the substrate into 4.5m2 areas to better understand coverage rates. Apply using a low-pressure sprayer (complete with a fan spray nozzle) or pour and spread with a watering can and a soft broom.
  2.  Begin application at the lowest elevation.
  3. Pour or spray Densi Crete onto the concrete at a minimum rate of 4.5m2 per litre. Broom the product around to achieve an even coverage and then allow to penetrate.
  4. After approx. 15mins, broom any excess product or puddles into drier areas. (Do not allow any excess product to dry on the surface).
  5. If Densi Crete fully penetrates in the first 5mins, then a second application will be necessary.
  6. Densi Crete should fully penetrate within 15mins to half an hour. Any excess product still remaining after this time will not penetrate and should be removed with a squeegee or similar.
  7. Allow a minimum of 24hours drying time before applying any subsequent sealers or coatings.
  8. The surface MUST be mechanically prepared before applying any further coverings to Densi Crete. Either diamond grind, sand (using 180# sandpaper) or high pressure clean the substrate thoroughly prior to applying subsequent coatings.

As An Alternative Cure Method:

  1. Apply with a low-pressure non-atomizing, spray apparatus such as pump-tank sprayer or mechanical cure slurry pump, or alternatively by flooding-on.
  2. Densi Crete is ideally applied to the newly poured concrete surface as soon as is practical following it’s surface finishing phase. Should conditions require the surface to be walked on, for application, concrete should be allowed the time to adequately harden, so as not to imprint or mar its surface during application.
  3. Recommended minimum coverage rate as cure method is 4m2 per litre.
  4. Allow a minimum of 14days after application of Densi Crete before applying subsequent coatings.
  5. Follow the manufacturers guidelines for preparation for applying coatings and sealers.
