    Product Description

Non Slip Paint has been designed specifically for concrete areas requiring extra grip with slip reducing properties. A non slip coating system that is suitable for interior or exterior areas, including; Driveways, Patios, Pathways, Garages, External Ramps and a great deal more… It does require the addition of a primer and topcoat which are sold separately.

It is a perfect substitute for decorative non slip coatings, such as stenciled concrete or spray applied products. It is a water based coating that has been incorporated with a silica sand to add extra grip to a slippery surface. Having high weather and UV resistance makes it compliant with the Australian Standard for a slip resistant coating which has a rating of P5 when installed to manufacturers recommendations.

    Coverage Rates

12 litres of Non Slip Paint will cover approximately 40m² – 45m² (concrete porosity dependent)

Coverage rates will be determined by how porous the concrete is (how easily water soaks in). The easier and quicker that water soaks in, the more porous the concrete is and the more product you will use.

    Surface Porosity

    • Ensure the concrete has sufficient porosity for the sealer to penetrate.
    • Dip a finger into a glass of water and apply 2-3 drops to the surface.
    • Time the amount of time it takes for the water to soak into the concrete.
    • For sufficient porosity to apply a sealer, this should be no longer than 90 seconds.
    • Repeat the test over multiple sections of the concrete substrate.
    • If under 90 seconds then the concrete has sufficient porosity for application of the sealer.
    • If longer than 90 seconds, then it may be necessary to either acid wash or diamond grind the concrete to open it up and create the required porosity.

    Quantity Estimator

Enter the dimensions of your surface area to estimate how many tins of product you may need:

    Summary Estimation
    0 tins
    * The estimated number of tins is based on the average coverage per square metre and is to be used as a guide only, as there are many variables when estimating (ie, porosity). Please ensure you check your calculations as Right Choice Coatings cannot be held responsible if the incorrect quantity.

    General Notes

    • Ensure to read the TECHNICAL DATA SHEET, the PREPARATION GUIDE and the APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS thoroughly first.
    • It is recommended to do a test patch first to determine the suitability of the product.
    • Do not apply when the ambient temperature is below 15c or above 28c.
    • The substrate must be cool to touch before applying any sealer or coating.
    • Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for coverage.

    PREPARATION:

    Moisture

    • The substrate must be dry and free from any rising moisture.
    • Ideally use a concrete moisture meter to determine the moisture content. If this is not available, proceed using the method below.
    • To test for moisture, cut a piece of thick black plastic into 1m².
    • Ensure that it is free from any tears or pinholes (this would render the test useless).
    • Attach the plastic to a section of the substrate (repeat in other areas) & duct tape the edges.
    • It is important that the plastic is completely sealed around all edges and free from holes.
    • After 24 hours, remove the plastic. If the concrete has darkened or there is condensation under the plastic, then the concrete is not sufficiently dry to apply a sealer or coating.
    • If the substrate is not dry enough then either wait a few more days & repeat the test or it may be necessary to use a concrete moisture barrier. Contact Right Choice for advice.

    Contamination

    • All substrates must be clean and free of contamination i.e. oil, grease, bird droppings etc.
    • Many of these contaminates are easily removed using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner.
    • In some cases it may be necessary to use a concrete grinder or a light acid wash.
    • Basically, if water does not penetrate through the contamination then neither will a sealer or a coating.

    Acid Etching

    • If required, the concrete can be lightly acid etched prior to sealing. This will help to create a more porous substrate.
    • Use extreme caution and safe handling methods when using hydrochloric acid.
    • Before acid etching, make sure the concrete is cleaned properly of all contaminants, oil, grease and dirt by using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner (mix @ 50:50 dilution with water), paying extra attention to heavily contaminated areas.
    • Rinse the Concrete Cleaner off thoroughly with clean water.
    • Dilute the hydrochloric acid with water at a rate of 1 part acid to 10 parts water. CAUTION! Always add the acid to the water, not water to acid.
    • Lightly dampen the surface so that the concrete is slightly wet but not puddling water.
    • Apply the diluted solution evenly to the surface using a watering can or similar.
    • Allow the acid to bubble on the concrete for up to 15 mins.
    • Once the bubbling has ceased, thoroughly rinse the surface off with clean water (abide by local laws for disposal).
    • Neutralise the surface using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner (mix @ 50:50 dilution with water, highly alkaline). Brush the mixture into the surface and allow it to sit for 5-10mins before rinsing thoroughly with clean water.
    • Allow the surface to dry for a minimum of 24 hours (weather dependant).

*Note – If neutralising is not done correctly, acid etching can leave a white powdery residue, (calcium carbonate) on the dried surface. This is a fine white dust which can cause problems with adhesion and delamination of the coating. Once neutralising is complete, check the entire surface of the concrete. It should have a uniformed texture similar to medium grit sand paper (If not, repeat the above process). Sprinkle a few drops of water over the surface and If all the water is quickly absorbed, the surface is sufficiently oil and grease free. If the water still beads up (even if only in certain areas), then further preparation as above will be required.

    APPLICATION:

    IMPORTANT NOTE:

Before applying any product, please open all coloured drums to check that the colour is correct. If there is any variance in colour etc, please contact Right Choice Coatings before proceeding. Once the product has been installed, Right Choice Coatings will not be held responsible for any colour variations.

    • Prime the substrate 1st with Aqua Prime (see application instructions).
    • Ensure to apply Non Slip Paint within 12hrs of the application Aqua Prime.
    • Non Slip Paint should be applied using a 10mm – 12mm nap roller.
    • Thoroughly stir the contents of the bucket whilst adding the colour pack prior to application.
    • If using multiple batches:
    • Make a line on the outside of the bucket where it is filled to (after batching you will fill each bucket back up to this line)
    • After adding the colour pack to each batch, pour 1/4 of each batch into a clean bucket and mix them all together. Repeat this process back and forth until all batches are a uniform colour.
    • Note: Do NOT mix just 1 batch at a time and then apply as you will get a colour variance.
    • After the product has been “batched together” fill each original bucket back up to the line previously drawn and then thin with 5% water. Mix again thoroughly. Your batches are now ready for application and should be a consistent colour. If they are not, then repeat the above process.
    • Ensure to keep wet edge when rolling to avoid roller and lap marks.
    • Never apply in direct sunlight or when temperatures exceed 28c
    • Allow 24 hours to dry before applying the top coats.
    • Apply two coats of Clear Concrete Sealer (see application instruction).
    • Do not walk on for 24 hours and do not drive on for a minimum of 5 days.

    FAQ's

    • Q – Can Non Slip Paint be used over pebblecrete?
    • A – Yes, as long as the correct preparation is done. The pebblecrete must be cleaned thoroughly by means of pressure washing at 4000psi. Once done, allow to dry and then proceed with the application of the Non Slip Paint (priming is not necessary).
    • Q – Can Non Slip Paint be used over a previously sealed driveway?
    • A – Yes, as long as the correct preparation is done. Give the entire surface a light sand using 200 grit sandpaper and then thoroughly clean. This will give the Non-Slip Paint a better bond that will increase it’s life span.
    • Q – Can Non Slip Paint be used over a marine ply?
    • A – It really depends on whether the ply is porous or not. Pour a little water onto the ply and if it soaks in and darkens then it will be ok to apply the Non-Slip Paint in conjunction with the Aqua Prime. If it does not soak in then it cannot be coated.

      Great product

I have very little experience with painting concrete, but this product was so well prepared and easy to use, I used it on old concrete at the entry to the front door. I am so happy with the result, I really like the anti-slip feature as well.

      Non slip paint

We applied over existing paint which was soap scrubbed and water blasted. The existing paint wasn’t stripped back to the bare concrete. I mistakenly chose a gray shade too light so I should have applied two coats. The paint looks great but the main reason for this is the sealer fine glass non slip additive. With online deliveries I can be confident drivers carrying significant loads won’t slip on our sloping driveway in the wet. Natural concrete works well of course but we live in a high leaf area and the sap and gum leaves even makes this dangerous over time and it requires regular water blasting.

I purchased the non slip paint in stone. It is a very good quality and quite thick. It applied beautifully with both a roller and brush. I also purchased the clear concrete sealer which seems awesome also. A big thumbs up, my outdoor areas look like new.

I purchased the Non-Slip Paint and Clear Concrete Sealer. I asked a lot of questions prior to the purchase, along with doing my own research. My driveway is 25 degree slope, so very steep and I wanted to be sure I got a product that would prevent slip, not increase it. Overall great products, when applied with patience and in the right weather conditions. Wear wise the drive is doing well, I do not slip on the drive, be it walking or in the car, even in heavy rain. Unfortunately big vans / trucks do struggle and even though they get up the drive, they have removed paint in the process, resulting in me having to reapply and do the process again in those areas. This has only happened in very heavy rain, in normal conditions the driveway has provided more than enough grip for any type of vehicle.

This was a little bit more work than we expected, however the outcome on our paths around the house was definitely worth it. It looks great and no more worries about falling over on slippery concrete.
