    Coverage Rates

20 litres will do 2 coats over approximately 60m² – 70m² (concrete porosity dependent)

Coverage rates will be determined by how porous the concrete is (how easily water soaks in). The easier and quicker that water soaks in, the more porous the concrete is and the more product you will use.

    Surface Porosity

    • Ensure the concrete has sufficient porosity for the sealer to penetrate.
    • Dip a finger into a glass of water and apply 2-3 drops to the surface.
    • Time the amount of time it takes for the water to soak into the concrete.
    • For sufficient porosity to apply a sealer, this should be no longer than 90 seconds.
    • Repeat the test over multiple sections of the concrete substrate.
    • If under 90 seconds then the concrete has sufficient porosity for application of the sealer.
    • If longer than 90 seconds, then it may be necessary to either acid wash or diamond grind the concrete to open it up and create the required porosity.

    Quantity Estimator

Enter the dimensions of your surface area to estimate how many tins of product you may need:

    Summary Estimation
    0 tins
    * The estimated number of tins is based on the average coverage per square metre and is to be used as a guide only, as there are many variables when estimating (ie, porosity). Please ensure you check your calculations as Right Choice Coatings cannot be held responsible if the incorrect quantity.

    General Notes

    • Ensure to read the TECHNICAL DATA SHEET, the PREPARATION GUIDE and the APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS thoroughly first.
    • Generally only two coats are required, however on highly porous surfaces then a third coat may be necessary.
    • On very tight (not very porous) concrete, then it may be necessary to do a prime coat 1st with a 25% dilution of the Right Choice solvent added to the product. This helps with product penetration to avoid peeling.
    • It is recommended to do a test patch first to determine the suitability of the product.
    • Ensure that the concrete is a minimum of 28 days old.
    • Do not apply when the ambient temperature is below 15c or above 28c.
    • It is always advisable to apply sealers in the afternoon and in the shade.
    • Do not apply in direct sunlight when the temperatures exceed 28c.
    • The substrate must be cool to touch before applying any sealer or coating.
    • Do not apply if rain is imminent in the following 24 hours of application.
    • Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for coverage.

    PREPARATION:

    Moisture

    • The substrate must be dry and free from any rising moisture.
    • Ideally use a concrete moisture meter to determine the moisture content. If this is not available, proceed using the method below.
    • To test for moisture, cut a piece of thick black plastic into 1m².
    • Ensure that it is free from any tears or pinholes (this would render the test useless).
    • Attach the plastic to a section of the substrate (repeat in other areas) & duct tape the edges.
    • It is important that the plastic is completely sealed around all edges and free from holes.
    • After 24 hours, remove the plastic. If the concrete has darkened or there is condensation under the plastic, then the concrete is not sufficiently dry to apply a sealer or coating.
    • If the substrate is not dry enough then either wait a few more days & repeat the test or it may be necessary to use a concrete moisture barrier. Contact Right Choice for advice.

    Contamination

    • All substrates must be clean and free of contamination i.e. oil, grease, bird droppings etc.
    • Many of these contaminates are easily removed using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner.
    • In some cases it may be necessary to use a concrete grinder or a light acid wash.
    • Basically, if water does not penetrate through the contamination then neither will a sealer or a coating.

    Acid Etching

    • If required, the concrete can be lightly acid etched prior to sealing. This will help to create a more porous substrate.
    • Use extreme caution and safe handling methods when using hydrochloric acid.
    • Before acid etching, make sure the concrete is cleaned properly of all contaminants, oil, grease and dirt by using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner (mix @ 50:50 dilution with water), paying extra attention to heavily contaminated areas.
    • Rinse the Concrete Cleaner off thoroughly with clean water.
    • Dilute the hydrochloric acid with water at a rate of 1 part acid to 10 parts water. CAUTION! Always add the acid to the water, not water to acid.
    • Lightly dampen the surface so that the concrete is slightly wet but not puddling water.
    • Apply the diluted solution evenly to the surface using a watering can or similar.
    • Allow the acid to bubble on the concrete for up to 15 mins.
    • Once the bubbling has ceased, thoroughly rinse the surface off with clean water (abide by local laws for disposal).
    • Neutralise the surface using the Right Choice Concrete Cleaner (mix @ 50:50 dilution with water, highly alkaline). Brush the mixture into the surface and allow it to sit for 5-10mins before rinsing thoroughly with clean water.
    • Allow the surface to dry for a minimum of 24 hours (weather dependant).

*Note – If neutralising is not done correctly, acid etching can leave a white powdery residue, (calcium carbonate) on the dried surface. This is a fine white dust which can cause problems with adhesion and delamination of the coating. Once neutralising is complete, check the entire surface of the concrete. It should have a uniformed texture similar to medium grit sand paper (If not, repeat the above process). Sprinkle a few drops of water over the surface and If all the water is quickly absorbed, the surface is sufficiently oil and grease free. If the water still beads up (even if only in certain areas), then further preparation as above will be required.

    APPLICATION:

    IMPORTANT NOTE:

Before applying any product, please open all coloured drums to check that the colour is correct. If there is any variance in colour etc, please contact Right Choice Coatings before proceeding. Once the product has been installed, Right Choice Coatings will not be held responsible for any colour variations.

    • Always wear the appropriate personal protection equipment.
    • Thoroughly stir the contents of the tin whilst adding the entire colour tint pack prior to application.
    • If using multiple batches ie; 2 or more x 20ltr tins, (regardless if it is pre-tinted or a tint pack that is added), you need to follow the instructions below or a colour variation will occur.
    • Make a line on the outside of the tin where it is filled to (after batching you will fill each tin back up to this line)
    • After adding the colour pack to each batch, pour 1/4 of each batch into a clean bucket and mix them all together. Repeat this process back and forth until all batches are a uniform colour.
    • Note: Do NOT mix just 1 batch at a time and then apply as you will get a colour variance.
    • Fill each tin back up to the line previously marked and mix thoroughly again. This is now 20ltrs of tinted product ready for application.
    • Garage Floor Paint should be applied using a 10mm nap roller, sprayer or solvent resistant broom.
    • Pour the sealer directly onto the concrete in ribbons, try to avoid pouring in large puddles.
    • Apply the sealer using the “cross hatch” method. Roll East to West and then roll again North to South (right angles to each other). Use this method for all subsequent coats.
    • Ensure to keep “wet edge” of the sealer to avoid any overlapping or roller marks.
    • Keep to the recommended application rate, do not over apply. Two thin coats are better than a single heavy coat.
    • Allow a minimum of 6-12 hours drying time in-between coats (weather dependent).
    • Ensure the first coat is clean and free of any contamination before applying the second coat.
    • Do not walk on for a minimum of 24 hours and allow 3 days before driving over.

    FAQ's

    • Q – Is it necessary to use thinners in the 1st coat?
    • A – It really depends on the porosity of the concrete and weather conditions. The idea of the 1st coat is to get it to soak in as much as possible. So if you have a very “tight slab” (not very porous), then you would dilute the 1st coat with 30% xylene (solvent) and then do 2 more coats neat. The same if it is hot, dilute the 1st coat for better penetration. If the slab is very porous (water soaks in easily), then there is no need to prime, however you may need to do 3 coats in total.
    • Q – Can I apply the Garage Floor Paint over the top of a water-based acrylic paint or sealer?
    • A – In general, putting a solvent-based sealer (Garage Floor Paint) on top of a water-based sealer is a bad idea. The solvents can eat or soften the existing water-based sealer, destroying both coatings. Think of it along the lines of oil and water; they do not mix.

      Works Well

Ordered Sunday and arrived Thursday which was perfect timing for my project. Went on as described and after abusing it thoroughly with my first workshop project I am very impressed with how durable the finish is. Excellent product!

      Looks Great

Ordered the garage floor paint with Wallaby tint. Prepared the floor with concrete cleaner which made it quite porous.
The first coat soaked right in and I thought what have I done, I wish I had it done by a professional. Then I did the second coat and what a transformation, it looked fantastic. I had enough left for a third coat and after the third application it looked even better ( I could have stopped after the 2nd coat ) ..I highly recommend this product, follow the instructions and you will get a great outcome.

      Great product

Did a bit a research and come across Right Choice Garage Floor Paint, was delivered in less than a week to Geelong Victoria. Chose the Shale Grey and extremely happy with the end result. Went on really easy and looks fantastic. Not sure about durability yet but time will tell.

      Garage floor paint

After a lot of research I ended up ordering the 20L in windspray, quick delivery, I spent 4 afternoons preparing to make sure the concrete was ready, first coat went down well, second coat a bit average, we used a 270mm roller and found it was drying super quick (afternoon in shed, 27-28 degrees) went to throw a third coat on and just ran out, now I either have to buy another 20L to cure my OCD and have it done perfectly, or suck it up and redo it in a years time, yet to move anything into shed so can’t review wearing, however for the budget I’d recommend it, PS MAKE A 5 LITRE AND ILL BUY IT RIGHT NOW

      Garage Floor Paint

After doing my research I decided to renovate my garage with this garage floor paint so in the future if I need to give it a touch up it will be much easier with this product as opposed to an epoxy. I hired a concrete grinder as my surface had old paint, oil marks etc and I wanted to make sure I had the best adhesion possible. I bought a 1 20L tin and the non-slip additive. The prep work was hard but I’m extremely happy with the end result. The colour I used was Wallaby. I documented the renovation for my YouTube channel, modaufy garage. Eventually I will be painting my driveway (after we decide on a colour scheme) and I will not hesitate to buy from this company again.

      Garage Floor paint

Good website to understand the product and what i was looking for.
The product arrived 10 days later from QLD into WA which was fine.
Have put down 1 coat already and the colour is bang on and the consistency to roll on with roller is perfect.
Will be doing 2 more coats
      Great product A++

      Good gear

This is the second time I have used your Garage Floor Paint, it is easy to apply and gives a good finish. However I would prefer a slightly thicker coating to cover concrete surface cracks and inperfections.

Ordered 1 x 20 litre garage floor paint for my workshop. Arrived very quickly. 3 coats using the recommended roller but using a tray rather than pouring directly on the floor and I only used around half for a 18 square meter area. So coverage extimates are very generous.

Happy with the product. Did lot of research before applying with many products and finally decided to take chance on this. Cost is reasonable and quantity is good. I bought 20L can of pipeline grey and double coated my 36m2 garage still l am left with half can of color and looks amazing despite of my less prep work. Delivery was on time.I would have added photos but not sure where to upload them.

Will give this product 4 stars, because in my opinion and experience it was a little hard to work with…leaving a wet edge is tricky and I had quite a few roller marks. Tried paint sprayer as well…that will leave marks too…
Job was carried out in the garage, so no sun and outside temp was steady 20C

Service, delivery etc. gets 5 stars
